We Make Your Orthodontic Treatment in the GTA Seamless
From installing your braces to adjusting the wires, we work to make your orthodontic treatment in the GTA as smooth and simple as possible. That’s why the team at Dr. Perry M. Lui Orthodontist has tips and tricks to help you through the process.
Eating with Braces
There may be a few diet changes to consider when wearing braces. Foods to avoid would be items that are sticky, hard, crunchy and chewy. Specific foods include popcorn, apples, corn on the cob, hard candies, gum, bagels, etc.
This may seem like a lot of items to avoid, but there are many foods that you still can enjoy while wearing braces. Safe foods include soft cheeses, pancakes, pasta, chicken, tuna, mashed potatoes, bananas and milk shakes. You will have plenty of choices in every food group.
Soreness Caused by Orthodontia
It’s common to experience some soreness after first getting braces or after intermediary appointments. You should not expect tenderness to last for a long duration, but if you are looking for ways to relieve some of the soreness, you can try gargling with salt water or taking a pain reliever.
Another option to relive pain is to apply hard wax on the edges of your braces to dull irritation.
Experiencing Loose Teeth?
If your teeth are feeling a little loose, this is perfectly normal. In order for your teeth to move into the intended position they must be slightly loosened by your braces. After alignment is complete, your teeth should no longer be loose.
If you notice any loose wires, brackets or bands, please relay the information to your orthodontist. At Dr. Perry M. Lui Orthodontist, we can quickly analyze areas of concern and provide any necessary repairs. If a part of your braces has detached completely, please save this piece and bring it in to your appointment.
If you are unable to set an appointment quickly, there may be a few steps that you can take to relieve pain. You can apply wax over any portion of the braces that cause discomfort. Also, for loose wires, they may be temporarily put back into place by gently pushing them to their original position with the back of a spoon or a pencil eraser.
It is important to report any damage to your braces, even if it seems minor. Seemingly small issues may cause problems with the effectiveness of your braces.
Participating in Sports
Having braces does not mean that you have to sit out on your favourite sporting activities. However, we do recommend that you wear a proper mouth guard to protect your teeth and braces from damage.
